Variation of culture arises when human beings join together to create distinctive ways of life. Only humans rely on culture rather than instinct to create a way of life and ensure survival. Planet estimated to be ~4. 5 billion years old, life appeared 1billion years after formation, primates appear ~65 million years ago. Importance of primates is that they have the largest brain relative to body size. Homo sapiens (latin for thinking person) emerged ~250,000 years ago, ~40,000 years ago humans similarly looking to us emerged ( modern homo sapiens)
