Week 1: introduction to professional & business ethics. We focus on evidence that proves that we are right and we ignore evidence that suggests that we"re wrong: bias blindspot. Even though we are susceptible to the same type of error, we think we are the exception: attribution bias, cultural bias - ethnocentrism (process and result) Applied to a wide range of topics. Historically founded on logic, aesthetics, epistemology, metaphysics and ethics. Morality is the effort to guide conduct by reason while giving equal weight to the best interests of each individual who would be affected by one"s conduct. Making sure we"re paying attention to other"s well-being, and treating people with respect. Spontaneous cooperation has the principle of egalitarianism (equal shares for everyone) Institutionalized rules governing distribution has the principle of fairness. Without a mechanism to reveal preferences, institutionalized rules governing distribution would fail.
