For a fourth-year capstone project, a group of environment and business students have decided to conduct a study to determine the recycling habits and recycling knowledge of students from the university of waterloo (uw). This research will be conducted at the student. Life center (slc) in uw as it is a place where student traffic is very frequent. The researcher will dress as one of the cleaning staff who works for uw food services and while conducting cleaning duties such as wiping tables and sweeping the floor, they will be secretly observing student behaviours. Being undercover, the researcher will be within close proximity of garbage disposal sites to get a better view of how waste is sorted, or lack thereof. Periodically, the researcher will approach students who have thrown things out to question their awareness of the types of materials that could be recycled.
