Krieghoff: caughnoega indians in a snowy landscape: painting the common unidentifiable person its not a characterture. The focus is not on the person but on objects (i. e. snowshoes) and landscapes. George caitlin focusses on the person and their details as opposed to the background. Focus is on her clothing and the babies blanket and her moccasins etcetera. She looks a little wooden and a generic aboriginal. Indian trapper on snowshoes:has more of an expression but still very wooden and generic. Caughadeaga indian: focus on what she"s wearing (blanket) but her face is very generic and expressionless. Dont know who she is or anything about her other than that she"s indian. Chief tanaghte: emphasis on what hes wearing, even though you know his identity you dont know the circumstances or why it was made.
