Document Summary

Doing research: three principles of scientific endeavour: objectivity, systematic observation: having a plan for gathering data and how to study and test the research question. Planned in advance: replicability: if we do this exact same study again and again with a different group we will get the same results. Creates a boy of information on the study. Participants or subjects: the organisms whose behaviour is systematically observed in a study. Statistics: used to analyze data when doing quantitative research and not qualitative. Longitudinal (goes for a long time), cross sectional (studying a lot of different people at one point in time). Scientific method of psychology: state the problem, develop hypothesis(es, design a study: who, what where when why, collect & analyze data, draw conclusions & report results: the data tells if the hypothesis is supported or not. Extraneous variables: any variables other than the independent variable that seem likely to influence the dependent variable in a specific study.
