The process of searching out and attracting qualified job applicants, which begins with the identification of a position that requires staffing, and is completed when applications are received from an adequate number of applicants. An organization"s efforts to help existing and prospective workers understand why it is a desirable place to work. Identify job openings: hr planning/strategic planning, employee resignations/terminations, specify job requirements, from job description/job specifications, select methods of recruitment. Internal or external: generate pool of qualified applicants, employment equity/diversity goals. Advantages of recruiting internally - good midterm question. Employees see that competence is rewarded thus enhancing commitment, morale, and performance. More accurate assessment of person"s skills and performance level. Inside candidates require less orientation (know the norms, the culture, etc) Time consuming to post and interview all candidates if one is already preferred. Possibility of inbreeding no new blood, same mistakes may be made, no new ideas. Acquisition of skills or knowledge not currently available within the organization.
