Exam date: feb. 15th (last day of class before break) Midterm will cover all content up to and including feb. 13th. Exploratory,descriptive, and qualitative research do not have hypothesis. Primary purposes of research: way to gather research, and make sound decisions. Identify a new novel question to answer: question that we have to answer, knowledge gathering (what do we already know) Steps of research process: define question/state the problem, state the hypothesis, plan the research, collect the data, analyze the results, state conclusions, dissemination. Lab based research to answer fundamental research questions. Do a pre-blood draw, then make pregnant women exercise, treat sample and bring it into the lab. This experiment will take many years to complete, but it is a start. Action research: similar to applied research but in a local setting focus on local needs, problems, issues. Purpose is to find answers to practical problems has immediate solutions in real-world setting.
