Life expectancy has greatly improved over the past 150 years. Canada has one of the highest life expectancies in the world (8th in the world at 82 years old) Longer life span and improved quality of life. For most of history the life expectancy was around 30-35 years of age. In the past 100 years the life expectancy has doubled. Causes of death shited from infecious disease to wear and tear. People could expect to be sick their enire lives. They would carry lice and parasites around all the ime. Clean drinking water: major improvement was chlorinaion. Refrigeraion: this put an end to eaing spoiled food, the food would stay fresh longer, preserve food year round. Anibioics: made huge impacts, penicillin reduced maternal mortality (giving birth used to have a 30% death rate if there was any tearing due to bacterial infecions) Usa consumes and produces about one half of the world drug industry.
