Looking at the events happening in the ancient greeks" lives that lead to the creation of the myths to help them understand. 800 bc most of the upper class/middle class became literate and not many people had that literacy. This literacy dispersed the native cultural tradition of orally passing on stories. Greeks acquired literacy by adapting it as an invention. They went from story telling society to having everything written down within a few generations. So many of these stories were written down and preserved. Asia minor and italy play important roles in greek mythology as many greeks lived there as well as along the eastern coast of sicily.
