Lewis carrol very eccentric, modelled alice after alice liddel (friend), very cynical. Full of literary nonsense and jokes about death; narrator"s attitude towards alice is a little condescending and makes fun of everything about children and learning (student) Carrol addresses the idea that adults and society are very stupid and nonsensical many times (relate to tom sawyer) Alice is a danger to wonderland and lacks empathy but has a lot of curiosity like any young child. Changes shape 12 times never the right one (symbolic of puberty?) Main idea is that childhood is a very special golden age. Cheshire cat is immune to queen"s terror, also the only other one who sees that wonderland is crazy (understands that it is a figment of alice"s imagination) Themes transformation, physical changes, death/destruction, senselessness of authority. Oh, you can"t help that, said the cat. I can"t go back to yesterday because i was a different person then. (alice to mock turtle and gryphon)
