Week 8b/9a: air pollution and global climate change. First half of semester: will probs cover 30% of exam. Environmentalism: broad philosophy/ideology/soc movement that is concerned with environmental protection/improvement of environmental health. Advocates preservation, restoration & improvement of the natural envir. Challenges include controlling pollution & protecting plant/animal diversity. Second half of semester: will probs cover 70% of exam. 1. atmospheric pressure: pressure is heavier closer to the earth. 2. relative humidity: the amount of water vapour that is present in a given volume of air. Earth surface warms, air above it starts rising. Pressure is higher to the left, and lower to the right. Because the air has to replace the hot air. This process of convection can lead to flows in the atmosphere, in a manner than we can illustrate on a small scale. Warm and cool air in a fish tank rise and fall; this motion is made visible by adding fog.
