Document Summary
Operational: precise operations and procedures used to measure the variable. Parameter vs statistic: parameter for population, stat for sample. Lecture 3- central tendency, variability, relative standing, hypothesis testing. Disadvantages: depends on only 2 scores so leaves out a lot of info, sensitive to outliers and sample size, unstable. Iqr: divides into 4s, q1 is 25%, q3 is 75%, iqr=q3-q1. Advantages: reduces impact of outliers, can be used for ordinal. Sd: how much on average scores vary, based on deviation scores (x) found from subtracting the mean from a person"s score. Sum of all deviation scores is always 0, so we square them and do a complicated formula and get an sd. Advantages: takes in everything, more stable, lends itself to computing other stuff, good for normal distribution, identifies outliers. Disadvantages: can be influenced by outliers, hard to understand. Variance: only for inferential, equal to squared standard deviation.
