Determinism: the universe is determined, free will is impossible. Libertarianism: universe is not determined, free will is possible, make free choices and can be praised or blamed. Compatibilism: determinism is competitive with free will. Hard determinism: actions are determined by genetics, behaviours are determined, we have no moral choices. Baron d"holbach: mechanistic materialism (no immaterial mind) Universe is made of matter and motion. No choice, no freedom of the will: cause and effect. Takes nature to consist in matter and motion and nothing else. Nature is known to us and can be known as a sequence of causes and effects. Identifies bodies with causes, and motions with effects. Human is a part of the universal nature. No way we can escape this condition. Human nature be explained in terms of the necessity deterministic laws and laws of physics. Free will is a sham, a fabrication of religion and society.
