Don marquis argues that, with rare exceptions, abortion is seriously immoral and that it is in the same moral category as killing an innocent adult human being. Whether or not abortion is morally permissible stands or falls on whether or not a fetus is the sort of being whose life it is seriously wrong to end. With that being said, he is only developing a general argument for the claim that the overwhelming majority if deliberate abortions are seriously immoral. Marquis" first premise states that the decision of whether abortion is moral or immoral seems to depend upon the decision of whether a fetus is considered a human being whose life it is seriously wrong to take. He deals with the subject of abortion only based on that fact that is an immoral decision and does not consider any social, political, or legal issues.
