Ethics or morals: morals: values and associated rules and pracices people live by, ethics: moral philosophy, study of morality, more neutral/abstract, ancient ethics: focus on group thought, do the right thing for the situaion. Sophists: paid teachers who taught rhetoric and argument defence, ancient lawyers. Classical: jusice, community/state authority, social convenion ethic. Medieval: faith, hope, charity, love, church authority, fidelity to god ethic. Modern: independence, individual authority, idelity to rules ethic. Pracicing medicine: apply technical knowledge to variable subjects, skills + care. Trust: essenial, product of good pracice, bonding mechanism. Complicaions to pracice: limited ime with doctor, someimes there is no technical soluion (ex. Euthanasia), responsibility can be discharged but morals can not. Shits morality from what is just to how do i respond . Skepical of universal rules and answers to diicult dilemmas. Moral dilemma: a moral principle will be compromised no mater the opion chosen, best answer is choose least worse thing.
