Two versions of aristotle: historical aristotle (naturalist/empiricist) and. Philosophy (philos = love, sophia = wisdom) is greek through a group of individuals who taught in cities (including socrates) Plato said philosophers differ from sophists (their competitors) and priests. Orators were people who argue for a purpose. Parmenides wrote poem on nature - said all is one and that change is not possible. He said change is a transition from what is the case to what is not and it is only ever viewed after the change. His two objections: it cannot be said that something can arise from nothing, because that would mean nothing held some kind of value, and further, determining why or when that would possible happen is not possible either. His conclusion: the world has always existed, and has always been unchangeably complete. Achilles and the tortoise: impossible to see the process of change. Since to them change cannot be, they conclude time cannot exist.
