Consciousness is our ability to be aware of ourselves and our environment. We don"t know how the brain produces consciousness. Dual processing: the human brain processes information on 2 levels. Blindsight: an individual is consciously blind but may have some unconscious sight (eye receives information, but the part of the brain which receives it is damaged) Selective attention: ability to focus attention on one specific stimulus & disregard all others. Second midterm: 10 questions will be on pages 100-106. Any drug that is going to influence/ affect the functioning of the brain. Majority of street drugs enhance the effects of dopamine; influencing the pleasure/reward pathways. Disease of the brain acquired over time people feel compelled to seek out drugs and take them in spite of consequences. With continued drug use, a person will become less sensitive to a drug. The same dose no longer produces the same effect. Happens because of neuroadaptation, an example of neuroplasticity.
