Document Summary
Chapter 6: sensation: sensory processing, vision, light, eye and its function, transduction of light, colour vision, audition, sound, ear and its function, detection and localizing sounds, gustation and olfaction, qualities of taste, receptors and sensory pathway. Sensory receptors convert energy into neural impulses. Brain must know what is happening in order to react. Detect and respond to various stimuli (modality speci c) Intensity (how much/ strong) will in uence action potential (how bright, loud) Di erence between not bing able to perceive stimulus and being able to just barely perceive it. Minimum amount of sensory stimulation that can be detected 50% of the time. Smallest increase/ decrease in a stimulus that is required to produce the just noticeable di erence : vision. Wavelengths dictate colours we see and don"t see. Cones are receptive to light; in centre; useless at night. Blind spot where optic nerve leaves eye.
