Document Summary

All learning involves the formaion of associaion between two formerly unrelated (or unassociated) events. Two major types of learning: classical condiioning: the associaion between two simuli is learned, operant condiioning: the associaion between a response to a simulus and a subsequent consequence is learned. Simplest form of learning that has been demonstrated to occur in animals as simple as snails. Upon repeiion of a simulus, the response to the simulus become smaller and gradually decreases altogether. Sensory representaion : with repeiion of simulus input, a memory for its features is formed (the more oten the simulus is presented, the beter the formaion of the memory) Habituaion= failure to respond is because of the formaion of memory. Sensory adaptaion also results in an eventual failure to respond, however the adaptaion occurs at the level of receptor and does not involve memory. The incoming sensory simulus is compared to the model of that simulus that has formed in memory (the representaion)
