Document Summary
One of the first ways to try to classify personality. Type a = without fear / non-inhibited, quite sharp. Type b = timid / inhibited, somewhat closed up. Kretschmer, sheldon based their testing on body build/structure. Endomorph: a short, plump person, said to be sociable, relaxed and even-tempered. Ectomorph: long, slender body with a sarcastic or evil personality. Mesomorph: large, muscular build, very loud and active. From the type perspective, people are divided by kind, belonging to one type or the other. A characteristic pattern of behavior, or a disposition to feel and act, as assessed by self-report inventories and peer reports. Continued categories, not so much one or the other. Everyone has different amounts of all the traits. If humans were left to just manage on their own, just followed instinct, they would probably destroy each other. We need to be held back and contained. Human nature = negative (from freud"s perspective)
