Document Summary

Refers to aggression that is inflicted simply to cause harm. Describes inflicting harm in order to obtain some goals or something of value. A form of behaviour that is intended to harm another individual who is motivated to avoid such treatment. Aggression is a behaviour that harms others (e. g. : physical or verbal / psychological) The victim is motivated to avoid the harm. Therefore, aggression doesn"t involve accidents or assertive acts, but includes acts where there was in intention to harm, even when there was no actual harm. How do biological factors influence aggression: instinct and evolutionary theories. These theories view aggression as innate and not a learned behaviour: freud"s death wish. According to freud, people possess a powerful death wish. In order to cope with this unconscious desire, people need to channel this energy in some direction. They can turn this energy inward and engage in self-destructive behaviour or outward and thereby engage in aggression against other people.
