Maintain blood blow through the outgoing and incoming arteries, capillaries and veins. Systolic phase: pressure = higher after heart beats and ejects blood. Diastolic phase: resting phase, ow is uninterrupted. Blood collects in the right atrium and is ejected in2 the right ventricle. Blood passed thru lungs collects in the left atrium and ejected into left ventricle. Aorta = blood to the rest of the body. Death of heart muscle cells = myocardial infraction: myocardial infarctions (heart attack)= atherosclerosis, high bp can produce damage to the interior lining of the arteries and endothelium = in ammation. Atherosclerosis can occur in any artery: concerned w/ the arteries of the heart for this course. Reduction in blood ow; build up in the arteries; narrows the arteries. Angina = pain in the chest: distribute oxygen + nutrients, damage to the lining of the arteries.
