Document Summary

Describe how the darwinian revolution changed traditional views of a young earth inhabited by unchanging species, darwin"s hypothesis had its roots in the work of many other individuals. His formed that descent with modification by natural selection explains the adaptations of organisms and the unity and diversity of life. Fossils are remains of past organisms which appear in the layers of strata. Paleontology is the study of fossils it was developed by georges curvier. He advocated for catastrophism, meaning that each boundary between strata represents a catastrophe. Later, charles lyell proposed a theory of uniformitarianism, which held that geologic processes had not changed throughout. This is very similar to the first one. Some doubt about permanence of species preceded darwin"s ideas. After graduating from cambridge university darwin joined the crew of survey ship (beagle) as a naturalist. Darwin began to perceive that the origin of new species and the adaptation of species to their environment were closely related processes.
