Speculative thinking means to be theoretical (one can be abstract, analytical, philosophical, ideological, risky, intellectual, dangerous, hypothetical, experimental: it gives one a different passage to thinking critically and newly. Humanities is a method of interrogation: critical thinkers are not afraid to ask questions! Humanities is knowable (empirical sciences help us better understand the quantifiable aspects of the world and the universe) The humanities offer clues but never a complete answer. They reveal how people have tried to make moral, spiritual, and intellectual sense of a world in which irrationality, despair, and death are as conspicuous as birth, friendship, hope, and reason.
