Cities = large urban settlements with a dense population: cities must have two attributes: population size and population density. Cities is defined legally as territorial units of governance, which has distinct boundaries and have particular powers to govern, tax and protect the population: eg. The city of toronto, territorial unit brought in 2006. Cities are locales produced through the intensive transformation of nature by human labour: the built environment and everything taking place within this locale is nature intensively transformed. Eg concrete and glass made from natural materials alter by human, rocks/sand. There are several different ways of defining and understanding what a (cid:862)(cid:272)it(cid:455) (cid:862) is today we have looked at three ways of conceptualizing the city a)political b)demographic and c) ecological.
