I guess the real appeal is that she's female but in truth they found out that since it's based on a true story, it's really not as true as everyone thinks. She was NOT in fact the first female fighter pilot Kwon Ki-Ok was and she actually had many Pro- Japanese beliefs which made the story somewhat flawed in its message.
