Howard-Caregivers in Rural Zimbabwe Abstract- Africa is in an orphan care crisis . Zimbabwe has hiv positive rate. 15 of children are orphans. Lack of stable care of orphans putting them at risk for malnourishment, emotional underdevelopment, HIV infection, illiteracy, poverty, etc. This study looks at the barriers and incentives to orphan care. Is a quantitative cross sectional survey. Surveyed 371 adults caring for these children about perceptions and experiences of orphan care Found that foster caregivers are disproportionately older ladies w.o a spouse 98 percent of caregivers are willing to foster orphans even outside family Poverty is main barrier to foster care Financial need is greatest for single orphan AIDS impoverished households Struggling families dont have much support Incentives for fostering sho
