What theories are and why we need them (their relevance) _ie: world system analysis- how it shaped the way we think about of development. Adelman: how global convergence or interdependence creates inequality, how global convergence creates togetherness , but also stratification and inequality . Long running global debates unfolding at many corners of the world at the same time: development and socialism traced similar arc but at different scale include scholars from other places of the world. Why global distributive justice? (link in ppt slides) > development as solidarity - act collectively at the local level and global level. How we frame a problem or a question greatly affect - even determine - the way we see the problem and the solutions that are possible. A set of assumptions, proposition, or accepted facts that attempts to explain the causal relationships among a set of observable and related phenomenon: this is a positivist definition.
