Peer scholar phase 1 script by: hamza ibrahim. One effective parenting discipline strategy that my parents usually avoided was praising a child on good behaviors and persistence. In many cultures worldwide such as my parents the idea of praising child even a little was believed to cause a child to become arrogant and prideful. As a young kid i started to play ice hockey for the first time without any skating experience. It took a while to reach this level and i attribute this to my parent"s lack of positive praise in where they did not praise my effort or hard work until i started achieving desirable results. Research indicates that praising a child"s effort and persistence leads to enhance motivation and dedication as in the publication of the psychology of self-esteem in. 1969 encouraged parents to use praise to increase self-esteem (lowry, 2011).
