Psychology is the scientific study of mind and behaviour. The mind refers to our private inner experience, the ever-flowing stream of consciousness that is made of perceptions, thoughts, memories, and feelings. Behaviour refers to observable actions of human beings and nonhuman animals, the things that we do in the world, by ourselves or with others. It was only until the end of 1850-1895 where psychology began to exist. To pursue something scientifically one must first assume that the behaviour of that thing conforms to some sort of natural laws, laws that can eventually be understood, specified, and used to predict future behaviour. People have spirits, they are different because of souls and by definition a spiritual entity do not have to conform to physical laws one can not apply god to science. This was the mindset of people for many years.
