Document Summary

Hunger and eating: hunger is a biological drive that influences what we pay attention to and interacts with our past experiences and current mental states such as excitement and anxiety. When drive is satisfied reward centres of our brain are activated. However, our ability to predict our future needs is not perfect and this is why psychological variables such as stress can have a strong influence on behaviour such as hunger and thirst. Hypothalamus surface of the brain: the on" and off" switches involved in hunger can be found in a few regions of the hypothalamus, a set of nuclei found on the bottom. Cells called glucostats can detect glucose levels in the fluid outside of the cell. If level low tells thalamus to increase hunger: after sugar absorbed into bloodstream insulin secreted by pancreas, helps cells store this circulating glucose for future use.
