Week 1
Series of Photos
-Series of images and see how you feel
-Nature of experience while viewing the photo was shaped by many things such as mood
you are currently in, interpretation of an image (i.e., need for information to determine
how you feel), cognition
-What happens when we experience an emotion? Our body changes (i.e., heart beat
faster, sweating)
-There is a reason why we experience emotions – they serve a certain purpose: emotion
influence our behaviour, perceptions, judgments, how we view the world, sometimes it
is the better, or sometimes it makes us biased
-See cute photo – it might put you in a better mood – when you induce someone in a
positive, they seem others and stimuli more positively
History of Emotions
-Emotions were originally talked about by philosophers then adopted by psychologists
Evolutionary Perspectives
-How did emotions evolve? What is the reason of having all these emotional responses?
-Idea whether animals have emotions?
-What animals have emotions and which animals do not?
Emotional Expression
-How do we express and communicate emotions?
-One purpose of emotions if to communicate our wants and needs – i.e., verbal and non-
verbal ways (body posture, tone of voice, pitch of voice)
-Connection between emotion and verbal/non-verbal communication
