Document Summary

The field of child development focuses on the scientific study of systematic processes of change and stability in human children. Look at ways children change from conception through adolescence. The study of human development differs as it covers the entire human lifespan from conception till death. Development in one area sends ripples through all other areas of development. Division of the lifespan into periods of development is a social construction: an idea that is generally accepted to be real by a particular culture or society. We follow human development as a sequence of five periods o prenatal periods, infancy and toddlerhood, early childhood, middle childhood, adolescence. We examine crucial changes through these periods o. Physical developments: aspects are: growth of the body and brain, sensory capacities, motor skills, and health care. Cognitive developments: aspects are: learning, attention, memory, language, thinking, reasoning, and creativity. Psychosocial developments: aspects are: emotions, personality and social relationships.
