Idea of a motor system : not movement system or stabilization system . What does it mean to understand motor control: understand a system if we can predict and control it, most neurologically intact individuals can control movements, but cannot say in detail how they achieve this control. Understanding of motor control is being able to state principles of motor control (e. g. , describing how to ride a bike) Documenting the neglect: 1967 and the publication of cognitive psychology by neisser, marked cognitive revolution in psychology in north america, break away from emphasis of behaviourist traditions, growing interest in psychological processes such as reasoning, perceiving, etc. If motor control is important, should see it represented here: 2013, cognition by radvansky & ashcraft, new books reflect coverage of high level cognitive topics still nothing/ not much on motor control. An important characteristic of all motor control theories is that they include explanations of how we control coordination.
