Document Summary
Science: a model of inquiry used to systematically create knowledge based on sets of principles and procedures. Not incompatible with other ways of creating knowledge. Kind of hard to avoid, the lightbulb example. Perhaps a response to limitations of other ways of knowing. Intimidation, provinciality: the results are analyzed by other researchers for limitation and alternative explanations. Overgeneralization (nobody i know), overgeneralization occurs when we make statements and draw conclusions that go beyond what the available data or information can support. Selective observation: when we notice only these things that support and reinforce our current thinking and views on a subject. Premature closure: when we reach a conclusion before we have sufficient evidence to do so. Halo effect: a predisposition to admire all actions and words for a person, based on the perception of a distinguished quality demonstrated in the past. Discursive approach, science as a way to structure a conversation. Line not always clear, or may change: marxism.
