Shi( ), shu , li , yi ( ), yue , chun qiu : explain the three meanings of li in ancient china. Confucius traced li (ancient zhou ) to ren. Ren , humanness, the self-aware interconnectedness with and responsiveness to many others, served as a foundation of ren". Further, the concept of yi", the respect for and proper action to others, is derived from ren. And from this concept of yi, confucius derived that of li, the ritual. It is an overall concept of cultural ideal, meant a graceful order leading to harmony: explain the meaning of virtue according to confucius and enumerate some most important virtues in his virtue ethics. Virtue, in confucius" idea, means the excellence of abilities, and also conceived as harmonization of relationship. The rectification of name, that is things in actual fact, should be made in according with the implication attached to them by names.
