Section 1. 6, omitting the discussion of the heine-boreal theorem (end of the section, starting near the top of page 32, after compactness has another consequence ): start working on practice problems, see section 3 below. Even before you start working on the practice problems, it is recommended that you read section 3. 1, which contains some material that may be useful for homework. Important points include: some notational points not conceptually di cult but important to be familiar with them.
