This is an ethic that is inherent to the individual. Today it"s no longer a matter of religious affiliation. That capitalist structure works with these ethics in place. We must adapt to these expectation for economic survival. Asceticism - acquisition of wealth is morally suspect. Specialized labour and being productive and not indulging in luxuries. Puritans were the chose people and thanked god for being in their situation. Rational clean and solid comforts acquisition of wealth as oppose to irrational use of wealth. Avoiding being idle refraining from irrational spending or new idleness acquisition of wealth riches. For calvinists, labour is not an economic means but a spiritual end. The west stole the world through imperialism. We got there first because of technological superiority.
