Document Summary

Learning is a relatively permanent change in behaviour as a result of experience. Allows anticipation of significant events, act on environment to produce outcomes (produce food, avoid danger), and adapt to environment and improve fitness. Dualism: distinguished between the human mind and body. There is a simple, automatic connection between stimuli and response. Reflex action: for every action, there is something that make it happen. Simple sensory inputs become associated to from rich ideas and representations: Eg. when you see an apple, you actually see a collection of sense impressions an apple is red, round, and shiny. With experience, these impressions are combined to form the complex idea of an apple. Human mind the thing that was supposed to separate humans from animals had itself evolved: morgan. Behaviours were gradually built up from simple processes. Suggest that some of the most remarkable things that we see animals do may actually be built up slowly from fairly laborious and simple processes.
