We have reason to note the temperature of things, we use both celsius and kelvin scales. Celsius is used more in everyday environments, kelvin is more useful in extremely low temperature situations. For celsius water freezes at 0, for kelvin all motion within an atom ceases at 0. Calculate k from c by simply adding 273. Chapter 1: scientific theory and the big bang. Educated guess based upon observation (sometimes only one observation) Can usually be supported or rejected through experimentation or more observation. While it can be supported or rejected, it cannot be proven to be true. Summarizes a hypothesis that is supported by repeated testing/observation. Considered valid as long as there"s no firm evidence to dispute it, can be supported or rejected as we learn more. If evidence accumulates to support a hypothesis it becomes a theory. Theories are not guaranteed to be true but are the best we can formulate based on current evidence.
