The abundance of energy and economic activity in canada and other countries in many ways is directly linked to the access and usage of fossil fuels. The benefits of fossil fuels are all around us: Affordable products from rubber, plastic and other fossil fuel based products. 300 million years ago the earth"s atmosphere contained extremity high levels of carbon dioxide" allowing plant species to thrive. As these plants died, they were sometimes covered by water via changes to the earth"s surface. Eventually this mass of dead plants was covered by massive layers of rock, causing intense heat and pressure that altered the plant material and turned it into a rocky substance. The 4 types of coal: lignite: the largest portion of the world"s coal reserves is made up of lignite, a soft, brownish-black coal that forms the lowest level of the coal family.
