We lose sight of its value because we have so much. Water is a common property, no one owns it outright so protecting it is a shared responsibility. We pretty much ignore water except for flood and droughts. 1/3 of all great lakes are in canada. The great lakes are called the laurentian great lakes (homes) Shoreline is 12100 miles, 6850 miles in ontario and quebec, 5270 miles in 8 states. *when people (governments) take water out of the great lakes, they are required to clean and put back the same amount* Largest system of fresh water in the world. Less than 1% of the water in the great lakes leaves each year. This means that lots of pollutants are retained in the system. *2. 5% of the world"s water is fresh water* Of this amount, 30% is ground water, and 70% is in glaciers. Glaciers picked up clay, sand, gravel, boulders. The glaciers scraped and formed the landscape.
