Uniqueness of usa tourism: size and diversity growing tourism in usa, history and timing massive spread after wwii, europe was trying to establish tourism by rail (rail was more expensive, only for elites; not the masses, scale of diversity was less in europe than usa, independence and self determination, lack of targeted government interference, overall small impact on national economy, omnipresent. Safety and security: statistically, air travel is still the safest way to travel anywhere, when accidents occur large losses of life, particularly concerned with 100 200 seated planes, ferry boats (local connectors) have a far greater incidence of sinking with several thousand people overcrowded, idea of safety and security is a concern of whether travelers will continue and what form it will take, takes longer to fly today b/c of safety checks don"t appear to be doing very much to keep us safe in the air.
