Diagnostic in ation is the medicalization of normal life problems, we are changing our language from just being sad to being depressed, using more mental illness terms, dms. 5 and the pharmaceutical companies have a lot to do with that. Dsm 5 has made more and more normal life problems and changing them into mental disorders. Pharmaceutical companies are pushing for their drugs to be bought and are pro ting off of this over medicalization of disorders. A good thing about this is that people that were getting over looked, previously can now get the help they need but a lot of people are getting help that is not needed. It cant be simply the result of better testing because as of now we have no real physical tests that can tell us 100% the causes and if someone has a mental illness. Way too many diagnostic categories now, and medicalizing way too much.
