Document Summary

There are 5 main roots from the spinal cord (c5, c6, c7, c8 & t1), between the vertebral bodies in the vertebral column. After the roots there are 3 trunks (superior, middle & inferior) Each trunk splits into the anterior and posterior region (there are 6 regions 3 anterior, These 6 divisions come together to form cords (anterior cord & posterior cord) The medial division also forms the medial cord. From the posterior cord: thoracodorsal, radial, axillary, lower subscapular & upper subscapular. 2 groups: muscles that move the shoulder (anterior/posterior) & muscles that move the humerus (axial/scapula) Clavicle & sternum is the only bone attachment to the axial skeleton; rest float in the muscle. Serratus anterior; moves behind the rib cage, underneath the scapula and attaches to the medial border. Insertion: medial anterior border of the scapula. Function: protects the whole skeleton; adducts and rotates the scapula upwards; if this muscle has an impaired function, it moves laterally.
