Primary motor cortex: neurons control firing of different movements. Mechanism of concussions: -rotational sheering force creates a coup and contre coup. Head is twisting or rotating and hits something in the process- force that creates concussion. Contre-coup- brain bounces off back of skull as a result occurs at side of cortex or frontal lobe. 2 areas bring out most severe symptoms: frontal and temporal -important everyday functions frontal: executive control and cognition temporal (side): memory and language function unknown how to prevent concussion. 2009-2014 number of concussions reported in each major sport in ncaa football is number one (over 3000)
