Important because it makes you feel as though you had a fair hearing therefore you"re more likely to accept the result even if you don"t agree with it. Statutes: broad and broadly applicable rules passed by legislatures. E. g. you have to have a safe workplace: highly diverse, can be enacted in anticipation of future events. They are often very useful as opposed to reactionary. Better suited to accommodate social change: becoming more important as they are passed by our democratic government, regulations ( subordinate legislation , detailed rules refining, applying or further describing broad statutory statements. E. g. regulations that ensure a safe workplace: passed by governor-in-council. Easily changed, much faster than passing a new law. Easily hidden as they are not discussed in a public legislature: example: ontario employment standards act. There is another section of the act that prescribes someone else to make the thresholds.
