Document Summary

Belief bias we only look for the things we believe are relevant so we miss relevant things because they don"t support our current hypothesis. Mental set mind has a strategy that it has developed and it always applies even if its not relevant to this situation. This is important for experts; they have a way to approach a problem that allows them to solve the problem. A key to solving problems is working out an algorithm which is a formula for solving problems. Systematic algorithms are formulas or procedures for generating correct solutions. This requires a lot of information to be collected before a solution is determined so these are often not used by humans. Heuristics what us humans often use; these are mental shortcuts that may or may not provide the correct answer. We can determine what a person is doing by looking at the outcome and making the appropriate measurements.
