AN201 Study Guide - Consequentialism, Deontological Ethics
Document Summary
1) explain in your own words the difference between 2 of the 3 ethical theories highlighted in today"s class. We learned about three ethical theories during our lecture today; the consequentialist theory, the deontology theory, and the virtue-based theory. The two theories that i"m going to be comparing are consequentialist and virtue-based. Consequentialist theory is a moral judgement that relies on the consequences of an action to determine if such action if right or wrong. Let"s say that a man was to kill someone, which is an obvious crime. But, suppose the man he killed was killing hundreds of people every year. Although this man committed a crime, he is saving thousands of people in the long run. If we judge this series of actions based on the consequentialist view, we are able to say that the man is doing the right thing because of the good consequences coming from it.
