Provide coherent philosophies, aims, and maths at a variety of levels: Study on olympic champions has shown the wide range of long-term individual and institutional in uences that may signi cantly in uence development far beyond sporting context. Development will not occur unless talent is valued by society and recognized and nurtured by patents, teacher, and coaches. In uences on peoples behaviour with clear objectives and clear rewards. At elite levels key factors associated with training commitment such as self-motivation, reinforcement, outcome expectancies, etc can all be in uences by external sources. If rewards are not associated with long-term aims people will only pursue what they believe to be important. Youngsters will often choose things that offer them immediate grati cation which is counter productive of long-term development. Coaches should be encouraged to develop athletes for long-term success and make reinforcement clear and consistent. Careful consideration of our coaches and talent development environments are paramount.
